Mentors, Education & Employment
Mentoring
Brighter Path supports and trains wonderful mentors who spend time with young care leavers and help them navigate the challenges of everyday life. A good mentor offers experience, wisdom, guidance and encouragement.
For each care leaver a person-centred plan is prepared which identifies targets, priorities and how these might be achieved. All young people need support but most care leavers do not have access to family support and the mentor plays an important role in filling that gap on a daily basis.
Mentors also visit local orphanages to build links with young people so that when the time comes for them to leave, they will have someone to turn to.
Vocational training, further education and employment
Every young person has different talents, interests and ambitions. We provide funding for vocational training or university & further education which would otherwise not even be an option for most care leavers. We believe passionately that growing up in care should not prevent any young person from pursuing any career which their talent and hard work qualifies them for.
Brighter Path works with a supportive network of good employers who understand the particular challenges faced by care leavers. We provide the resources needed to obtain secure employment – interview support, work clothes, references, and careers advice. For those in work we provide vital ongoing support and encouragement.
