Care Leavers
International Care Leavers Convention
From 23rd to 25th November 2020 the 1st International Care Leavers Convention was hosted in India and organise by Udayan Care, SOS Villages and Kinder Perspectief. Delayed from March 2020 because of the pandemic the Convention took place virtually and Brighter Path was delighted to play an active part.
Too often care leavers are invisible and it was great to see and hear so many young care leavers speaking at the Convention including members of the Generation Never Give Up Network from Sri Lanka. Key takeaways from these care leavers were their sense of the policy gaps they encounter: including in financial security, housing, education, career support, and health. Looking forward, we very much hope that policy makers will take this testimony into account and that we will start to see some changes to global care practises.
